Torrefied Biomass Applications

There’s no limit to the applications of thermally upgraded biomass. The trick is tuning the feedstock to the use.

  • Heat & Power

    With grindability and heating value equivalent to thermal coal, biomass is an excellent drop-in replacement for coal in power plants and anywhere process heat is required.

  • SAF & Biofuel Feedstock

    Excellent post-grinding particle size distribution and high grindability make torrefied biomass a great feedstock for gasification processes for the production or biofuels, including bio-methanol and SAF.

  • Green Steel

    By thermally upgrading biomass, and concentrating the fixed carbon, biomass can be leveraged as substitute for high-grade carbon in steel making. It can be used as a direct substitute for pulverized injection coal (PCI) or as a reductant in electric arc furnaces (EAF).

  • Concrete & Lime

    Concrete & Lime

    Torrefied biomass’ increased energy density and higher burning temperature enables it to be pulverized and used in lime and cement kilns. Torrefied agricultural residual can be leveraged as an excellent substitute for fossil fuels.
